SONAR INSTRUMENT DEFINITIONS KORG CODE
Here's one that changes a parameter on the synth - setting the pitch bend range to 12Ĥ1 = message type code, in this case "parameter change"ģ1 = hex code for ASCII of first character of parameter value (in this case = 1)ģ2 = hex code for ASCII of next character of parameter value (in this case = 2)į0 42 30 28 41 2E 00 32 00 F7 would set the pitch bend range to 2. Here is an example of selecting the Multi mode on a Korg Wavestation.Īll sysx files start with F0 and end with 00 F7ģ0 = Korg format (3n, where n = channel number in hex )Ħ3 = message type code, in this case "multi mode select" Second, you construct the sysx file inside SONAR under the Sysx View. I won't use SONAR anymore. This might be getting too far from the original post, but I'll try to explain one time here.įirst, you need to consult a system exclusive message guide for your synth since each handles sysex differently. I feel I'm light-years far from having a simmilar workflow in Ableton, but I don't regret.
SONAR INSTRUMENT DEFINITIONS KORG PATCH
So if i had a bass track and wanted to test how they sound, i only had to start playing the song, opening the bank selector, type "BS." and all my Triton basses (regardles of their bank or patch numbers), were filtered and displayed, so using my arrow keys i could easily test all the sounds one by one. "BS.phat bass", "BS.fingered bass", and so on. In fact, i wrote a customized "ins" file by hand (yes, i'm a very patient guy), in which i renamed all the banks this way:

I'll keep you informed if I find a significant improvement to this patch issue.īTW, i found a great software called "MIDI quest",, which allows you to configure any hardware instrument (in fact, there are lots of them predefined, incuding all the Triton flavours) as an VST.Īlthough it is nice, I haven't had any time to play with it, and i don't need so much control for Triton, i'd be happy just having the ability to select patchs by name as i did in SONAR. Thanks for your reply, very useful indeed. Hope something there helps, let me know if you find anything in regards to text selection.
SONAR INSTRUMENT DEFINITIONS KORG UPDATE
Though now that I think of it, more often than not, I'm selecting my desired instrument via my T.Le itself, since I'm playing there, and Ableton's clip Bank/Sub-Bank/Program selections update accordingly, so hasn't been too much of an issue for me, too many other great things to distract I understand why that might not be as convenient if you are using a rack module Triton though. That would be lovely here as well - I'm not sure if it's available in Ableton though - not that I've seen. I did love in Sonar the ability to select my T.Le's programs by name, eliminating this number game.

I've been making due with this for now, though maybe I'm missing something obvious. So B038: Garage PWM on my Triton corresponds to Bank:x/Sub-Bank:2/Program:39 in Ableton, if that makes any sense. Why I say roughly: The Ableton Bank selection is irrelevant, the Ableton Sub-Bank selection (1,2,3,4.) corresponds to the Triton Bank (A,B,C,D.), and the Ableton Program selection (1,2,3,4.) corresponds to the Triton Program PLUS 1 (000, 001, 002, 003.).

After doing so, the Bank/Sub-Bank/Program selections in Ableton roughly correspond to the programs on my Triton Le and make selecting a program thru Ableton a LITTLE more logical if you know the Triton's program number, such as "B038". On my Korg Triton Le I had to set the "GLOBAL->Pref->BANKMAP" to "KORG". I setup a default External Instrument device for my T.Le so I can always just drag and drop it to a midi track when needed and have the midi out/audio in/gain all pre configured. So maybe I can help, or maybe I can learn something here as well /rebates/&252fsonar-instrument-definitions-korg-electribe. I'm pretty new to Ableton (first post!), though have a Triton Le and previously used Sonar as well.
